Arme Peter I ‑‑  Zie, Hans en Margreetje dansen in 't rond

Zie, Hans en Margreetje dansen in 't rond,
En juichen bij 't hospartijtje.
Maar Peter staat daar stom als een hond
En ziet zo bleek als een krijtje.
 
Zie, Hans en zijn Greetje zijn bruigom en bruid,
Hun mooie kostuums imponeren.
De arme Peter bijt nagels en snuit,
En loopt in werkmanskleren.
 
En Peter praat zachtjes voor zich heen,
En kijkt heel somber naar beiden:
Ach! Hield ik mijn hersens niet goed bijeen,
Dan had ik heel wat te lijden.
