  Ich weiß nicht, was ich so thöricht bin!
Wolken im Herbstwind jagen,
Die Vögel ziehn über die [Wälder]1 hin,
Das klang wie in Frühlingstagen.

  Dort auf dem Berg, da steht ein Baum,
Drin jubeln die Wandergäste,
Er aber, müde, rührt wie im Traum
Noch einmal Wipfel und Äste.

Déjà les oiseaux reviennent,
Les anciens chants retentissent,
Hélas, ma joyeuse jeunesse
Reviens-tu aussi encore une fois ?

Je ne sais pourquoi je suis si fou !
Des nuages courent dans le vent d'automne,
Les oiseaux passent au-dessus des [forêts]1,
Cela ressemble aux sons des jours de printemps.

Là-haut sur la montagne il y a un arbre
Dans lequel se réjouissent les hôtes de passage,
Mais lui, fatigué, comme s'il rêvait bouge,
Encore une fois cime et branches.
