Ballade
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT
Der Barde singt:
 Was stürmet die Haide herauf?
 Ist's Salger's eilender Lauf?
 O hüllt euch in Wolken, ihr Sterne,
 o hemmet den Blick in die Ferne,
 denn Salger naht.

 Vergebens! Schon hat er erschaut
 im Arme des Freundes die Braut.
 Wie! Morna von Armin umschlungen?
 Ihr Herz hat mir Armin errungen?
 So Salger zürnt.

 O zürne nicht, Salger, dem Freund,
 siehst du ihm Morna vereint!
 Vergalt doch schon längst seine Triebe
 Arindels Tochter mit Liebe!
 So Armin seufzt.

 Dir weihet der Vater die Hand,
 die liebend sich Armin verband;
 die Herzen, die nimmer sich scheiden,
 die sollen nun ewig sich meiden?
 So Morna weint.

 Da brauset, wie Wogen im Meer,
 der Zorn Arindels einher;
 vom Hügel kommt er, der Recke.
 Ist's Armin, den ich entdecke?
 So raset er.

 Im Arme die Tochter? Nimm hin,
 und büsse verräth'rischen Sinn!
 Es schwirrt der Pfeil von dem Bogen;
 doch schützend kommt Salger geflogen,
 und Salger sinkt! Und Salger sinkt!

Ballade
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
De bard zingt:
Wat stormt daar de heide nu op?
Is ’t Salger in volle galop?
O, hul je in wolken, gesternte,
O, stuit toch die blik in de verte,
Want Salger komt.

Vergeefs toch! Reeds heeft hij gezien
Zijn bruid in de arm van zijn vriend.
Wat! Morna bij Armin verscholen?
Heeft Armin haar hart mij ontstolen?
Zo Salger tiert.

O haat toch niet, Salger, je vriend
Al zie je ‘m door Morna gediend!
Reeds lang toch vergold met romances
Arindels kind zijn avances!
Zo Armin zucht.

Jou geeft wel mijn vader mijn hand,
Maar ik kreeg met Armin een band;
De harten die nooit zullen scheiden,
[Moeten]1 die nu elkaar eeuwig mijden?
Zo Morna schreit.

Daar gaat nu, als storm op een meer,
In toorn Arindel tekeer;
[Van de]2 heuvel komt hij, nog kwader:
Is ’t Armin, die ik daar nader?
Zo buldert hij.

Je rooft me mijn dochter? Hoe laf!
Je krijgt voor verraad nu je straf!
De pijl zal Armin doorboren,
Maar reddend vliegt Salger naar voren,
En Salger valt! En Salger valt!
