Nous écoutions pleurer les harpes de la mer :
La mer bondit ce soir, amoureuse, sauvage ; 
Flots qui hurlez, mon cœur comme vous est amer ! 

C'est comme un bruit sans fin de sanglots et de râles, 
Les grands flots vers le ciel montent désespérés :
Et la lune et la mer s'attirent et sont pâles, 
Ainsi que deux amants que l'on a séparés.
