Doch was seh' ich! -- Ruhe in Frieden! Tröstender Schlaf, Himmel hienieden!

Are you sleeping, my darling? May Morpheus drop gentle rest Upon your closed eyelids! I spread my arms out to the canopy of the stars: When you are sleeping, my maiden, the whole world sleeps. But the moon is so pale, seems so downcast; I am jealous, I believe that even he loves you, The stars are pale, they sparkle so lifelessly: Comforting paleness, love is red! Are you already sleeping, darling? May sweet dreams flutter about you, Rocking you into the happy bliss of paradise. I direct my gaze to the canopy of the stars: When you are sleeping, my maiden, the whole world sleeps. But what do I see! Along the aether the breezy realms Of the clouds are becoming more red, The heavenly realm is yearning for you: Comforting redness, longing is pale! Are you already sleeping, darling? -- May the new day greet you rejoicingly, May it bring you the richest blessing of faithfulness! I send prayers to the canopy of the stars: When you are sleeping, my maiden, the whole world sleeps. But the pale companion casts his beams Directly onto you through your window, Are you definitely sleeping? -- Rest in peace! Comforting sleep, heaven here on earth!
