Aus der Tiefe tauchte sie nach oben, Tauchte auf aus einem dunklen Traum, Halben Leibes aus der Flut erhoben, Äugt die Nixe auf zum Himmelsraum. Welch ein Leuchten! Ihre kühlen Arme Bietet sie dem Kuß der Sonne dar, Ihre Brust, daß einmal sie erwarme, Und ihr feuchtes und verwirrtes Haar. Ach, nicht Wärme zuckt durch ihre Glieder, Nur ein Sehnen, das sie elend macht, Und sie seufzt, und weinend taucht sie wieder In die kalte, wunderliche Nacht.
