Naar Odin vinker
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Naar Odin vinker,
Naar Sværdet blinker,
Er Helten glad:
I røde Strømme,
I Liig som svømme,
I Birtingsbad,
Paa Lynets Vinger
Han iler kold,
Naar Rota svinger
Sit røde Skiold.

Hans Vaaben gunge;
Den blanke Tunge
Han svinger stærk.
Til Valhal rider,
Naar Staalet bider
I Pandsersærk,
De raske Kiemper,
Hvis Mandemod
Ei Skrækken dæmper,
Blandt Liig og Blod.

Paa Markens Flade,
I Jernplade,
Med Kobborhielm,
Som Blodgudinden,
Hen giennem Vinden
Den smalle Elm,
Med Staal paa Spidse,
Han kaster let,
For frem at ridse
Den røde Tvet.

Odin med Flammer,
Thor med sin Hammer,
Med Kølle Tyr,
Og Kampens Piger
Til Jorden stiger,
Naar Vaaben gnyer,
Naar Luren tuder,
Som hungrig Biørn,
Da lokkes Guder
Til Kampens Børn.

Hvad er vel Livet?
Et Pust i Sivet,
Som synker ned.
Et Spil af Kræfter,
Som higer efter
En Evighed.
Til Evigheden,
Saa morgenrød,
Gaar Vei, herneden,
Kun giennem Død.

Blandt Miød og Piger,
Du danske Kriger!
Blandt Blod og Liig,
Du rask dig svinge,
Til Rotas Vinge
Bortvifter dig.
Med Sværd fra Belte,
Med Egekrands,
Det sømmer Helte
Den sidste Dands.
