by Pauline von Brochowska (1794 - 1853), as Theophania

Warum stehst du so verborgen
NOTE: the footnotes have been removed from this text; return to general view
Language: German (Deutsch)
Warum stehst du so verborgen
in dem dunklen Waldesgrün?
Warum sieht der junge Morgen
dich so einsam doch erblüh'n?-
Röslein! heg'st du nicht Verlangen,
von des Beifalls Lust umweht --
bei den Schwestern stolz zu prangen
auf dem bunten Blumenbeet?

"Wanderer! gönn' mir die Wonne,
ungekannt hier zu verblüh'n--
mir auch leuchtet eine Sonne
durch das dunkle Friedensgrün.--
Nicht das Preisen eitler Thoren
ist es, was mein Herz entzückt,
wer für stilles Glück geboren
lebt verborgen nur beglückt!"--
