by Heinrich Stieglitz (1801 - 1849)

Seelendrang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Perlen im Meer,
Sternlein am Himmel,
Vöglein im Busch,
Blüthen im Feld. --

O wie das Herz sich engt,
O wie mich Sehnsucht drängt!
Möcht' in die weite unendliche Welt.

Perlen im Meer?
Sternlein am Himmel?
Vöglein im Busch?
Blüthen im Feld? --

Nein, nein, ihr lockt mich nicht,
Ach, was dem Herzen gebricht,
Gibt nicht die weite unendliche Welt.

Perle der Perlen du,
Stern aller Sterne du,
Blüthe und Klang, ach
So innig gesellt!

Himmlisches Augenpaar,
Innig und treu und wahr,
Dir nah! -- was wär' die unendliche Welt?

Confirmed with Berliner Musen-Almanach, ed. by Heinrich Stieglitz, Berlin: bei G. Fincke, 1830. pages 212 - 213.
