by Julie Menzel von Grossmann (1790 - 1860)

In der Fremde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Was willst du, Herz, was sehnst du dich?
Es ist ja hier so schön!
Warum hebt sich so bängiglich
Das Auge nach den Höh'n?

Ach, hinter jenen Höh liegt
Das liebe Heimathland,
Und dahin Herz und Auge flieht,
Und bleibt ihm zugewandt.

Denn sei die Fremde noch so schön,
Sie ist die Heimath nicht,
Die über alle Bergeshöh'n
Uns glänzt im Rosenlicht.

Confirmed with Gedichte von Julie von Grossmann, Breslau: bei Urban Kern, 1839, page 57.
