In Silberwasser erschaut der blasse Mond sein eigen‘ Bild.
Auf schlafenden Blättern ruhend die Strahlen leise,
leise erstarben.
Und Du bei mir, das Glück, die Sehnsucht,
der Tag, die Nacht
verflochten in der Seele.
Ich drückte zitternd meine Hand in Deine...
Die Herzen schlugen nicht,
die schwere Brust hob sich nicht mehr.
Was sprach bange die Stille?
Was wohl des Mondes Antlitz uns verbarg?
Sind’s Tränen unter kristallenem Wassern?
