by Josef Linda (1789 - 1834) and by Josef Jungmann (1773 - 1847)
Translation by Václav Alois Svoboda (1791 - 1849)

Die Nachtigall
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Czech (Čeština)
Our translations:  FRE
Sanft durchziehn den grünen Wald
Nachtigallentöne:
Die von ihrem Treuen lässt,
Töricht ist die Schöne.

Lass vom Treuen nimmermehr;
Bliebst allein du stehen,
Träf’ dich leicht ein Missgeschick,
Könntest irre gehen.

Gingest irr im weiten Feld,
Ohne Wegeskunde,
Wo der Kobold neckend lauscht
In der Zauberrunde;

Gingest irr im dichten Forst,
Wo dich Zweig’ umschlingen,
Mädchen, trau dem Waldmann nicht,
Schlau legt er dir Schlingen;

Wassermann wie Jägersmann,
Siehst du grün sich tragen,
Und von Beiden trieft der Tau,
Wenn im Grün sie jagen;

Drum, o Maid, nicht rechts noch links
Wende deine Augen,
Geh gradaus—die Rosenbahn
Wird zum Heil dir taugen.

Die von ihrem Treuen lässt,
Töricht ist die Schöne,
So durchziehn den grünen Wald
Nachtigallentöne.
