by Henri-Charles Read (1857 - 1876)

La main
Language: French (Français)
J'aime la blancheur de la main,
Le doigt bien fin, l’ongle bien rose :
La pâleur, auprès du carmin,
                 Repose !

Quand je vois une belle main,
La nuit, je la retrouve en songe,
Et souvent, tout le lendemain,
                 J’y songe !

Et si quelque femme, demain,
Me plaît et m’attire près d’elle,
On pourra dire que sa main
                  Est belle !

Confirmed with Henri-CHarles Read, Poésies posthumes, Paris, Éd. Alphonse Lemerre, 1879, page 86.
