by Friedrich Hermann Frey (1839 - 1911), as Martin Greif

Geistesflug
Language: German (Deutsch)
Gebirg und Wolkenzug
erhaben glühn;
wär dort des Adlers Flug
auch mir verliehn!

Wär ich ins Element
der Luft gebannt,
daß ich mich heben könnt
über Meer und Land!

Schwebt ich im Abendrot
der Bande frei!
Noch fänd ich wie dem Tod
zu trotzen sei.

Tät nicht der Sonne gleich
die dort noch blinkt
und trüb ins Nebelreich
hinunter sinkt.

Gebirg und Wolkenzug
erhaben glühn;
wär dort des Adlers Flug
auch mir verliehn!
