Le roi des cieux et de la terre
Descend au milieu des éclairs  ;
Sa voix, comme un bruyant tonnerre
S'est fait entendre dans les airs :
Dieux mortels, C'est vous qu'il appelle,
Il tient la balance éternelle,
Qui doit peser tous les humains.
Dans ses yeux  la flamme étincelle
Et le glaive brille en ses mains.

Ministres de ses lois augustes,
Esprits divins qui le servez,
Assemblez la troupe des justes,
Que les œuvres ont éprouvés ;
Et de ces serviteurs utiles
Séparez les âmes serviles,
dont le zèle, oisif en sa foi,
Par des holocaustes stériles
A cru satisfaire à la loi.
