by Hieronymus van Alphen (1746 - 1803)

Geen geld bekore ons jong gemoed
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Geen geld bekore ons jong gemoed,
Maar heiligheid en deugd.
De wijsheid is het noodigst goed
Het sieraad van de jeugd.

Wat is toch rijkdom? wat is eer?
Een handvol nietig slijk.
Gods vriend te wezen is veel meer:
Die jezus lieft, is rijk.

Komt vallen we onzen god te voet
Om deugd en heiligheid:
Zoo wordt op aard ons jong gemoed
Ten hemel voorbereid.

Dan krijgen wij dien besten schat,
Die nimmer meer vergaat.
Dan loopen we op het deugdenpad,
En schrikken voor het kwaad.
