Meine Lieder, meine Sänge
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT
Meine Lieder, meine Sänge
Sind dem Augenblick geweiht,
Ihre Töne, ihre Klänge
Schwinden mit der flücht'gen Zeit.

Große Sänger sind geschieden
Die kein Mund jetzt mehr erwähnt;
O wie töricht, wenn hienieden
ich den Nachruhm mir ersehnt'!

Tönen meine kleinen Lieder,
Die ein fühlend Herz erschuf,
Nur in einem Herzen wieder,
Dann erfüllt ist ihr Beruf.

Ewig mögen sie verhallen,
Wenn die Leier mir entsinkt,
Und zu dunklen Grabeshallen
Mir der Todesengel winkt.

Al mijn lied’ren en akkoorden
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Al mijn lied’ren en akkoorden
Zijn aan ’t ogenblik gewijd;
Want hun tonen en hun woorden
Vluchten met de vlucht’ge tijd.

Zangers groot zijn overleden
Die geen mond nu nog vernoemt;
O, hoe dwaas als ‘k hier beneden
Na mijn dood wil zijn beroemd!

Houden straks mijn kleine zangen,
Die ik schiep met diep gevoel,
Slechts één enkel hart gevangen,
Dan is toch bereikt hun doel.

Mogen eeuwig zij nog klinken,
Als mijn lier geen klank meer schenkt,
En om in het graf te zinken
Mij de stervensengel wenkt.
