Wenn Kindlein süßen Schlummers Ruh'
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT
Wenn Kindlein süßen Schlummers Ruh'
nicht in der Wiege findet,
spricht ihm die Mutter freundlich zu,
ihr Flehen überwindet
mit sanfter Macht des Schmerzens Schrei'n,
es [schlummert]1, wenn sie spricht:
Mein [süßes]2 Kindlein, weine nicht,
sei still! sei still! schlaf' ein!

Das Herz ist kindisch dann und wann,
und fordert gern vom Leben,
was es ihm nicht gewähren kann,
Vernunft steht ernst daneben.
Sie muß die gute Mutter sein,
die zu dem Wunsche spricht:
O träume von Erfüllung nicht,
sei still! sei still! schlaf ein!

Wir geh'n auf dornenvoller Bahn
von Rosen karg umblühet,
den Weg zum Himmelsdom hinan,
nach dem die Lieb' uns ziehet,
bis sie, umstrahlt von Heil'genschein,
zum müden Wand'rer spricht:
Du bist am Ziel, verzage nicht!
Sei still! sei still! schlaf' ein!

Wees stil, wees stil, slaap zacht!’

Ons hart is kinderlijk nu en dan
En vraagt graag van het leven
Wat het helaas niet geven kan;
’t Verstand zwijgt stil dan even.
Wees stil, wees stil, slaap zacht!’

Wees stil, wees stil, slaap zacht!’
