fo stornellar per te questo mio core
e la tristezza passa e il pianto muore.

Ah! Strido d'alcione!
L'onda sussurra sotto il tuo balcone 
e come l'onda va la mia canzone
che io canto per te, fior di passione.

Ah! Luna sul molo!
La gaiezza dei canti è per il cielo
e la gioia di vita in ogni volo,
pure son triste, che mi sento solo!

Mare imperlato!
Per una rossa bocca di granato
io distacco il canto come un rosso fiore.
Ah! per una bocca che m'ha innamorato!

Seafaring starling’s song

Ah! Seaweed!
When some great sorrow obscures me
I make my heart sing for you
And the sadness passes and the crying dies.

Ah! Cry of the seagull!
The wave whispers under your balcony
And like the wave goes my heart
That I sing for you, flower of passion.

Ah! Moon on the pier!
The gaiety of the songs is throughout the sky
And the joy of life is in every flight,
Yet I am sad that I feel alone!

Sea beaded with pearls!
For a ruby red mouth
I detach the song like a red flower.
Ah! for a mouth that has enchanted me!
