Der Jungfernkranz

Und daß ich eine Jungfer bin 
und habe keinen Mann,
und nicht weiß was die Liebe ist, 
das steht mich wenig an.
 
Was hilft mir denn mein Jungfernkranz,
hab ich ihn ganz allein,
ich trug ihn zwanzig Jahre lang,
bald wird verwelkt er sein.
 
Verwelken aber soll er nicht
vor Sonne und vor Wind,
ich häng ihn abends in den Tau,
bis das ihn einer find’t.
 
Und wer ihn find’t, das sag’ ich frei,
ihn auch behalten kann;
ich trug ihn zwanzig Jahre lang,
mir liegt nichts mehr daran.

Se että minä olen neitsyt
eikä minulla ole miestä,
enkä edes tiedä, mitä rakkaus on,
se ei häiritse minua yhtään.
 
Mitäpä minä neitsytseppeleellä tekisin,
jos aivan yksin
kannoin sitä kaksikymmentä vuotta,
pian se kai lakastuu.
 
Ei se kuitenkaan lakastu
auringossa eikä tuulessa,
minä ripustan sen iltaisin kasteeseen,
kunnes joku sen löytää.
 
Ja kuka sen löytää, sanon ihan suoraan,
saa pitääkin sen;
minä kannoin sitä kaksikymmentä vuotta,
en minä siitä enää piittaa.
