Car, le chef fléchissant et l'échine voûtée,
Tu graviras pieds nus comme le grand martyr
La pente raboteuse et l'aride montée.
Sentant à chaque effort ton pas s'appesantir
Sous l'averse de feu par le ciel projetée,
Tu tourneras souvent, vers la plaine enchantée,
Un regard douloureux, chargé de repentir.
Monte et que l'aveuglant scintillement des pierres
Brûle tes yeux rougis à travers les paupières.
Que la ronce en ta chair retourne son couteau !
Et que ferai-je, au faîte ? Une épreuve suprême 
T'attend, tu périras sous un vil écriteau ...
Seule, une femme en pleurs murmurera : Je t'aime !
Ces deux mots suffisaient, nous y serions plus tôt !
