Der Himmel gluthroth schimmert,
Fern über tönt der Glockenklang,
Der Thau im Grase flimmert.  
Da ist es doch, als rief es sacht  -- 
Ich hör' es wohl mit Thränen  --
Gute Nacht!   Gute Nacht! 

Die Blume schließt die Blätter zu,  --  
Sahst du die Blume prangen?
Die Vöglein nicken auch in Ruh',  -- 
Hörtest du, wie sie sangen?
Es ruht die Welt so kühl, so sacht,  --  
Mein Herz, das ruhet nimmer  --  
Gute Nacht!  Gute Nacht!
