L'Orfanella
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Meschinetta pastorella
Scesi l'alpie per città,
Venni misera orfanella
Domandando carità.
La campana di mio padre
Il torrente trabalzo;
Vi mori con lui la madre,
Niuno in terra mi restò.
Vi domando carità,
Assistete l'orfanella
Ch'è ben degna di pietà.

The little orphan
Language: English  after the Italian (Italiano)
I'm a lowly shepherd maiden,
From the mountains I have come,
Poor and helpless, faint and weary
Through the streets I sadly roam,
Craving pity for the orphan,
Friendless and with ne'er a home.
Since my father's humble cottage
By the flood was swept away
And with him my mother perished,
I have lost my only stay.
For your charity I pray,
Ah! look kindly on the orphan,
Send her joyful on her way!

From the Arditi score.
