by August Ferdinand Meyer (1811 - 1894), as Friedrich Brunold

Meine Schwalben
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn zum Süd die Schwalben ziehen,
sind die Rosen auch verblüht;
wenn dahin der Liebe Glühen,
ist nor Winter im Gemüt.
Vöglein singen ihre Lieder
nimmer in des Winters Hauch.
Herz, mein Herz, wann singst du wieder?
Ward es in dir Winter auch?

Störch' und Schwalben wieder kommen,
auch die Rosen werden blüh'n,
doch mein Lenz, der ist verglommen,
meine Rosen sind dahin.
Mag es blühen, ringsum glühen,
tränenschwer ist mir der Blick;
meine Schwalben südwärts ziehen,
und kein Lenz bringt sie zurück!
