Le roi est las, sa fatigue est si grande ! 

Il se couche tout au long du sentier fleuri, 
et malgré lui son ardeur est si grande ! son 
épée le côtoie, frémissante comme un fleuve, son 
armure gémit au vent comme une prairie.

Le roi est las, sa fatigue est si grande ! 

Dans son rêve il combat des monstres qui s'y 
meuvent, et contre l'enfer même il s'évertue, il 
tue le diable, arrache au dragon sa denture, --
dans son rêve il refiert les preux qu'il a férus.

Le roi est las, sa fatigue est si grande ! 

Mais le but est si haut de son cœur sous l'ar-
mure, et si fort sourd en lui sa vaillance que, déjà,
du vent de son épée, du haut de sa stature, 
dans son haut rêve il fiert les faux dieux qu'il 
ferra !
 
Le roi est mort couché dans son armure ...
