by Leonhard Widmer (1808 - 1868)

Am Grabe eines Sängers
Language: German (Deutsch)
In des Friedhofs stillen Gründen,
in der Abgeschied'nen Haus,
unter grünen Laubgewinden
ruht der Sänger friedlich aus.
Seine Lieder, voll und rein,
schliefen alle mit ihm ein!

Der dem Bunde treu geblieben
mit dem strebsam ernsten Sinn,
mit der Freundschaft heil'gem Lieben,
in der Blüte starb er hin!
Nur die Hülle legt' er ab,
denn sein Geist schwebt überm Grab!

Wieder muss sein Lied erstehen
in dem lichterfüllten Raum,
singt vom frohen Wiedersehen
nach des Lebens kurzem Traum.
Treuer Sänger, schlumm're du
selig deinem Himmel zu!
