by Jules Breton (1827 - 1906)

La Saint‑Jean
Language: French (Français)
Tandis que dorment les faucilles
Aux hangars, vers la fin du jour,
Autour des feux, les jeunes filles
Dansent en rond au carrefour.

Dans le crépuscule que dore
Un dernier rayon incertain,
Sur l'horizon où vibre encore
La brume chaude du lointain ;

On voit leurs silhouettes sombres,
Que baigne un reflet azuré,
Dans le mystère exquis des ombres,
Décrire leur pas mesuré.

Et le mouchoir qui se soulève
Au vent du joyeux tourbillon,
Sur leur épaule bat sans trêve,
Comme une aile de papillon...

Confirmed with François Coppée and Yann Mortelette Chroniques artistiques, dramatiques et littéraires, 1875-1907
