by August Ferdinand Meyer (1811 - 1894), as Friedrich Brunold

Der Fischer in Wahl
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sie ging zum Strand und starrte
still in das Meer hinein.
„Wem ich winke mit dem Tüchlein,
der soll mein Liebster sein.“

Da rauschten viele Böte
gar schnell und froh herbei,
manch Jünglingsherz, das lauschte
gar ängstlich, ihr so treu.

Doch den sie sich erwählet,
der hatt' ein ander Lieb,
und weinend ging sie vom Strande
und blieb für immer trüb.

Doch der sie hat geliebet
so recht aus Herzensgrund,
der liegt, von ihr vergessen,
auf kühlem Meeresgrund.

Confirmed with Wiener Zeitschrift für Kunst, Literatur, Theater und Mode Nr. 124, 4. Aug. 1840.
