Teurer, o gib mir
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Teurer, o gib mir
zurück meine Ruhe,
nimmer lacht
uns mehr die Hoffnung.
Teurer, o lindre
die Leiden der Seele,
nimmer lacht uns mehr
der Hoffnung goldiges Licht,
und mein armes Herz mir bricht.
Nimmer fühlst du meine Leiden,
nimmer kennst du den bitter'n Gram
Teurer, o gib mir
zurück meine Ruhe,
nimmer lacht uns mehr
froher Lust gold'nes Licht,
die Hoffnung lächelt uns nicht,
sie lächelt nie uns mehr.

Doch erinn're dich
der sel'gen Stunden,
die uns entschwunden
in Lust und Liebe.
Nur dich allein
liebt dieses Herz ewig.
In dir nur will ich leben,
dir weihen meine Tage,
dich will ich nur erstreben,
dich drücken an dies Herz.
Nach dir allein nur geht
mein liebeglühend Sehnen,
o sieh im Aug' die Tränen,
sie künden Lust und Schmerz.

Note: this is a much longer text than its original due to the numerous repetitions that were not translated literally. In stanza 2 line 10, the word "Herz" becomes "treue Herz" and "arme Herz" in the repetitions in Proch's setting.
