Herbstgesang
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich, der ich die Reife bin,
der ich golden die Frucht reifen lasse
und gold'ner leuchten den Wald,
auf meinen Lippen schwebt Segen des Lebens!

Ich, der ich die Reife bin,
segnend muss ich vernichten.
Leise in meinem Hauch
hat die Ahnung des Todes
schon des reifenden Lebens
schwellende Lippen berührt.

Ich, der ich die Reife bin
und der Tod,
näher bin ich der Liebe,
näher verwandt denn der Lenz
mit seinen Händen voll Blüten.
Golden gießt sie das Leben
aus dem Becher der Rechten,
purpurblutend den Tod
aus der Linken herab.
