Mon âme, un pays maudit
Où coule une onde étrange,
Avec des lauriers et des asphodèles
Au fil de l’eau qui s’échevèle.

Tu m’as dit :
Mon âme, un firmament interdit,
Un ciel étrange,
Où flottent des plumes de cygne :
Et de grands éclairs y font des signes.

Et puis, me dis-tu, mon âme,
Mon âme est une mer
Où crie un peuple d’alcyons…

Tu m’as dit aussi :
Cette âme, un jardin mort ;
Je sens qu’il ne fleurira plus rien ici.
Et tu m’as confié sur ton ombre
et sur ton sort
D’autres tristesses aussi.

Mais moi, j’ai lu dans tes prunelles de souci
Que ton âme, c’était bien autre chose encore.
