En sommeraften
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Solen, af sin Vandring troet,
luerød mon dale,
over Himlen strider let
Sommernatten svale;
dunkel er, o Nat, din Gang,
Dagens Farver, Glædens Sang
lægger du i Dvale.

Men du bringer Fredens Ord,
Hvilens Bud, det søde;
derfor stiger Dig fra Jord
Græssets Duft imøde;
derfor, som et Pant fra Gud,
folde sig i Vesten ud
Himlens Roser røde.

Havet i det lyse Skin
end uroligt bæver,
og dets Suk paa Nattens Vind
højt mod Himlen svæver;
jeg forstaaer den dybe Røst,
Bølgeflaget i mit Bryst
længselsfuldt sig hæver.

Glemt er hver en Sorg jeg led,
glemt de Lyster vilde,
for din Fod jeg synker ned,
Gud, du Stærke, Milde!
Tag mig naadigt i din Favn!
Kvæg mit Hjerte! stil mit Savn
af din Livsens Kilde!

O hvis nu min Aand du gav
Vinger til at stige
did, hvor for dit Straalehav
Nattens Skygger vige,
o, hvor skulde den da let,
frigjort i et Aandedræt,
flyve til dit Rige!
