Mondsüchtig trat ich aus dem Tag,
die warme Kraft verlor sich fern.
Mein Hirn kroch in den Apfelkern,
der auf der ersten Stufe lag.

Die Himmelsstiege is sehr hoch,
ich bin dafür doch noch zu schwer,
ein Blitz fährt durch den Abend her
und wirft mein Herz ins Wetterloch.

Jetzt steig' ich wie ein hohles Ei,
die Treppe wächst nach unten fort,
der Mond steht am erträumten Ort
und leuchtet starr an mir vorbei.

Mein Mut kommt in ein Kreuzverhör,
fast jeder Stern beschuldigt mich,
nur einer überwindet sich
und zerrt mich durch das Nadelöhr.

Ich schau' ihm dankbar ins Gesicht,
sein roter Schein scheint mir bekannt;
auf einmal ist er ausgebrannt
und bittet trüb': Verlass mich nicht!

Daran erkenne ich mein Herz
knapp unter dem Liebfrauenschuh;
ich bette es in mir zur Ruh'
und trabe wieder erdenwärts.
