by Benedetto Ferrari (c1603 - 1681)

Oh pazza ed insensata
Language: Italian (Italiano)
Oh pazza ed insensata
ch'un fuggitivo amante
segui ogn'or disperata
ferma le piante
e non voler col ciel del volto bello
far beato un rubello
te non segue non fuggi
ei non t'ama e ti struggi?
lascialo star,
lascialo gir;
nel disamar
mai v'è martir.

Ah fa ch'a terra caggia
l'idol de' pensier tui,
che rischerne, ed oltraggia;
né far più noto altrui
che donna dal dover torce le ciglia,
e al suo peggio s'appiglia,
te non brama, e tu l'ami?
ei non sente, e tu 'l chiami?
lascialo star,
lascialo gir;
nel disamar
mai v'è martir.

Deh conosci te stessa;
che s'inalza di rado
mole abbattuta, e oppressa;
non t'allunga dal guado,
che nell' onde d'amor spietate, e felle
sempre regnan procelle;
te non cura, e ti lagni?
egli ride, e tu plagni?
lascialo star,
lascialo gir;
nel disamar
mai v'è martir.
