by Jean-Baptiste Pocquelin (1622 - 1673), as Molière
Translation by Friedrich Aaron Kreis (1821 - 1907)

In des Lebens Maienzeit
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the French (Français)
[In des Lebens Maienzeit,
Jugendliche Herzen,
Weihet euch der Zärtlichkeit
Und verliebten Scherzen.
Wie auch Freude um euch quillt,
Glaubt mir, ohne Liebe
Bleiben immer ungestillt
Eures Busens Triebe.]1

[ ... ]

In der Liebe laßt uns leben,
Ihrem Zauber unterthan,
Sie nur kann uns Freude geben
Auf der kurzen Jugendbahn!
Über ihre Sorgenqual
Siegt die Wonne tausendmal.

Confirmed with Classiche Theater-Bibliothek, Stuttgart: Carl Hofmann, 1868. Appears in Der eingebildete Kranke: Lustpiel in drei Akten von Molière, appears in Zweiter Akt, zweites Zwischenspiel, page 41. Note: this is a choral entr'acte between Acts II and III but if it is a translation of Molière's words between Act II and II of Le malade imaginaire, it is an extremely loose one.

1 omitted by Berner.
