Glisse mon bateau,
Il a le hasard pour guide;
Moi je regarde dans l’eau.

Au dessus du flot tranquille
Est le grand ciel argenté
Où dans sa sérénité
La lune plane immobile.

Le ciel est dans l’onde encor;
Et quand un nuage passe
Sur le front de l’astre d’or
Je le vois dans les flots comme dans une glace;

Et je crois que mon bateau
Glisse sur le ciel et non pas sur l’eau.
C’est ainsi que ton image
O beauté pure à qui mon amour appartient,
