Et syn

Min Sjæl var syg, min Tanke lagt i Dvale,
af Sorg og Pine laa jeg vund og øm;
da i min Ve en Røst jeg hørte tale,
min Moders milde Røst; det var en Drøm.

Hvor Lægedom af Salighedens Vande
blandt Roser snor sig som en kølig Strøm,
derfra hun kom.
                                Og paa min hede Pande
jeg følte hendes Haand. Det var en Drøm.

Hun sang:
                    „Mit syge Barn, tag dette Bæger,
mit Alt, mit Liv, tag Bægret hen og tøm!
Den Salighed, som hist hos Gud mig kvæger,
den bringer jeg Dig helt." —
                                                            Det var en Drøm.

Var det en Drøm?
                                  Op sprang jeg fra mit Leje
at kysse hendes Klædes gyldne Søm.
Hun svandt. Men jeg har Fred, til jeg skal eje
det Liv, hvis Fred er ingen jordisk Drøm.
