Vor seiner Zell' und Psalmen las.
Der Abend durch die [Blätter]¹ glüht,
Als durch der Dämmrung Stille
Mit hellem Flügelschlag ihr Lied
[Jetzt tönen]² läßt die Grille.

Gott preist das Grillchen für den Tau,
Der es erquickt auf [schöner]³ Au
Der Heil'ge schlägt den Psalter zu;
Denn schöner, wollt's ihm scheinen,
Ruf' ihm das fromme Grillchen zu:
"Wie groß ist Gott im Kleinen!"

San Francesco

Una volta Francesco, il Santo, sedeva 
davanti alla sua cella, e leggeva i salmi.
La sera tra le cime degli alberi rosseggia, quando,
nella quiete del tramonto, 
con lieve vibrare d'ali,
fa risuonare il suo canto il grillo.

Lode a Dio canta il piccolo grillo per la rugiada,
che lo rinfresca sul prato verde.
Il Santo chiude il libro dei salmi, 
perché gli sembra più bello
il messaggio del pio grilletto che dice:
"Quanto è grande, quanto è grande Dio in ciò che è piccolo!"
