by Martin Drescher (1863 - 1920)

Der Sieger
Language: German (Deutsch)
Taufrisch glänzen die Blumen,
die der Frühling entbot.
Jedes Tal, jede Höhe
grüßt das Morgenrot.

Finster allein liegt die Heide,
die kein Lichtstrahl durchloht;
Über sie reiten zwei Reiter,
ich und der Tod.

Wie er mit sengendem Atem
meine Wange streift!
Wie seine Hand, die dürre,
nach der Kehle mir greift!

Vorwärts, mein Ross, mein braves,
fort aus dem giftigen Sand
in das blühende Leben,
in das lachende Land!

Noch ein Sprung, ein letzter!
Wir erreichen das Feld.
Diesmal, Tod, um die Beute
bist du Arger geprellt!

Da schallt gellendes Lachen,
schallt mir ein Spottwort ins Ohr:
„Der du das Leben gewonnen,
du hast verspielt, du Tor!”
