by Adolf Frey (1855 - 1920)

An die Nachtigall
Language: German (Deutsch)
Breite, Nachtigall, die Flügel
Fernher über Hang und Hügel
Und mein Heimatland entlang
Ströme seligen Gesang!

Komm, beseele unsre Wälder!
Schluchze über Furt und Felder!
Schauernd trinkt das Nachtgefild,
Wenn dein tiefes Lied erquillt.

Deine Stimmen zücken, zünden
Aus den Wäldern, aus den Gründen,
Und wer in die Nächte lauscht,
Atmet wundersam berauscht.

Unsre Seelen werden reicher,
Unsre Lieder tiefer, weicher.
Klingende Nachteinsamkeit
Löst das Lied und löst das Leid.

Confirmed with Adolf Frey, Neue Gedichte, Stuttgart und Berlin: J. G. Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger, 1913. Appears in Unter Sonne und Sternen, page 83.
