by Adolf Frey (1855 - 1920)

Edelweiss
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ich klimme verlorene Steige,
Die nur der Hirte weiß,
Und über den Felsensträngen
Brech ich das Edelweiß.

Tief unten im weiten Tale
Erblick ich am Bühel dein Haus;
Deine Tür ist mir verschlossen --
Wem bring ich meinen Strauß?

Es steht Mariens Bildnis
Hoch über dem wilden Stein;
Zu ihren Füßen trag ich
Die Blumen und denke dein.

Confirmed with Adolf Frey, Neue Gedichte, Stuttgart und Berlin: J. G. Cotta'sche Buchhandlung Nachfolger, 1913. Appears in Lieb und Leid, page 19.
