by Friedrich August Clemens Werthes (1748 - 1817)

Amor
Language: German (Deutsch)
 Amor wandelt an dem Bach
Auf und nieder;
Sieht den muntern Schmerlen nach,
Singet frohe Lieder;
Tilget in der klaren Fluth
Seiner goldnen Pfeile Blut.

Aber immer sieht er hin
Nach den Haiden,
Wo bei ihrer Schäferin
Junge Lämmer weiden.
Unaufhörlich winket er
Mit der kleinen Hand ihr her.

Bis sich jetzt die Schäferin
Nimmer sträubet,
Und schon nach dem Ufer hin
Ihre Heerde treibet,
Wo ihr Thirsis, den sie flieht,
Seufzend in das Wasser sieht.

Confirmed with Friedrich August Clemens Werthes, Hirtenlieder, Leipzig: Johann Gottfried Müller, 1772, pages 34 - 35.
