Translation by Hans Guido, Freiherr von Bülow (1830 - 1894)

Die schneeweiße Rose
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the English
O Rose, du wie Schnee so weiß,
des Prinzen Charlie Freude!
Dich liebt die arme Distel heiß,
die Zier von Schottlands Heide.

Dreihundert Jahr' hat sie geblüht
mit dir im Heimatlande,
doch sehnt sich jetzt zu Tode müd',
die einsam fern Verbannte.

Die Distel welkt' in Liebesharm
und grämt' sich bis zum Sterben.
Ein Frühlingsregen, mild und warm,
entriss sie dem Verderben.

Sie sprießet neu am Gladsmuirsumpf
in Carons Silberschimmer;
am Drummossie doch kahl und dumpf
neigt sie das Haupt für immer!
