Sängerfrühling
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sieht noch kein Mensch den Frühling nahn,
Uns blüht es überall,
Und längst, trotz dem verschneiten Plan,
Singt uns die Nachtigall.
Der Wald schon grünt, der Kuckuck ruft
Dem goldnen Sonnenstrahl,
Die Lerche jauchzt, und süßer Duft
Zieht von den Höhn in's Thal.
Wie haben's doch wir Sänger gut:
Gleich schenkt uns Gott zum Lohn,
Fehlt's aller Welt an Trost und Muth,
Den schönsten Frühling schon!

Springtime of the singers
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Though no one yet sees the approach of springtime,
For us it is blooming everywhere,
And for a long time already, despite the snowbound field,
The nightingale is singing for us.
The forest is already growing green, the cuckoo calls
To the golden sunbeam,
The lark rejoices, and sweet scents
Are drifting down from the heights into the valley.
How fortunate we singers are:
Immediately God already rewards us,
Though the whole world is bereft of comfort and courage,
With the gift of the most beautiful springtime!
