Da hatt' ich keine Bitte mehr
Language: German (Deutsch)
Da hatt' ich keine Bitte mehr,
Als ich an deinem Herzen lag!
Und käm' ein Leiden noch so schwer,
Vergeß' ich nie den Wonnetag!
Wie strahlte, jeden Schimmers voll,
Der schönste Frühling über mir,
Als dir das süße Wort entquoll:
In Freud' und Leid gehör' ich dir!
Da hatt' ich keine Bitte mehr,
Welch reicher Himmel war nun mein!
In Freudenzähren hold und hehr,
Erzitterte sein Wiederschein.
Und fort noch flammt das Segenslicht,
Und fort noch blüht der Frühlingstag:
O nur vor Gottes Angesicht
Noch schöner einst er strahlen mag!

Then I had no further desire!
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Then I had no further desire
When I lay upon your heart!
And though an ever-so-heavy suffering should come,
I shall never forget that blissful day!
How the loveliest of springtimes shone
Above me, filled with every kind of shimmer,
As you spoke the sweet words:
In joy and sorrow, I am yours!
Then I had no further desire,
What a plenteous heaven was now mine!
Lovely and lofty, its reflection
Trembled in [my] tears of joy.
And the light of blessing still flames,
And the springtime day still blossoms:
Oh, only before the face of God
Might it someday shine more beautifully!
