by Jean de Villeurs (1843 - 1908)

Pour les victimes
Language: French (Français)
Sous les décombres entassées,
Les découvertes sont affreuses !
Réveillez-vous, lyres joyeuses,
Les orphelins n'ont pas assez
De la collecte des quêteuses !

Violons, de crêpe enlacés !
Donnez la cadence aux danceuses,
Pour les veuves des trépassés !

Pendant qu'on pleure les victimes,
Poètes consacrez vos rimes
À ce grand deuil immérité.

Et chantez au lieu des batailles
Après le glas des funérailles
Les chansons de la charité.

Note: the title refers to the victims of the fire at the Opera Comique on the 25th May, 1887.
