Ich bin den ganzen Tag im Gras gelegen
Und hab’ bereut, was mir die Nacht getan.
Dies war der Faun in mir, das war nicht Pan.
Es ist viel Stein und Kot auf Gottes Wegen.

Und grade die, die sein am liebsten pflegen,
Finden nur allgemach zu ihm hinan.
Doch heut’ sah mich die Sonne gütig an
Mit ihrer Strahlen reinigendem Segen

Und aus der Erde duftigem Berühren
Strömte ein Neues selig in mich ein.
Ich gab Dir einen Namen, süß wie Wein –

Der Wein hat nur vermocht mich aufzuschüren!

Aus trübem Dust mitten in mich hinein.
