Note: Kralik's setting of this text was composed in 1918 and reflects the composer's response to contemporary political events. Zita of Bourbon-Parma was the wife of Karl I, the last Emperor of Austria-Hungary, who abdicated following Austria's defeat in World War I in 1918 when the country became a republic.
