by Alfons Petzold (1882 - 1923)

Die Arbeiter
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sturm und Gewalt ist in unseren Händen,
stehn wir im räderdurchdonnerten Raum;
doch in dem keuchenden Beugen der Lenden
sind wir gar oftmals nur Andacht und Traum.

In dunkler Berge verlorner Kaverne
sind wir die Brüder der strahlenden Tage;
türmen wir Steine im Antlitz der Sterne,
lebt Gottes Sehnsucht in unserer Plage.

Unser Wille erschüttert die Erde,
und der heiligsten Unruhe voll
schenken wir ihr durch die stete Beschwerde
Ewigkeit, die unserm Schaffen entquoll.
