Der Waldpfad
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Sonne zieht von dannen,
Und düster stehn die Tannen,
Hoch ragend aus der Schlucht.
Doch siehe, wie noch immer
Tief unten das Geflimmer
Den stillen Pfad zu grüßen sucht!
Schon deckt mit ihrem Schatten
Die Nacht die sonngen Matten;
Nur drunten noch ist's licht:
So lässest voller Gnade
Du auch auf dunkelm Pfade
Mir leuchten, Herr, dein Angesicht!

The forest path
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
The sun is departing,
And the firs stand gloomily,
Looming high from out of the chasm.
But see how deep down below
The flickering still seeks
To greet the quiet path!
The night is already covering
The sunny meadows with its shadows;
Only down below it is still light:
Thus, full of mercy, Thou too,
Lord, lettest Thy face shine upon me
Even on a dark pathway!
